Since announcing our return to our public access bike-sharing scheme in London, following our Covid-19 response enabling NHS and Key workers to travel over 100,000 kilometres for free over the past 6 months, we had hoped to expand our fleet to provide a sustainable, healthy transport for the benefit of all Londoners. However in the current operating climate, with vast differences in conditions imposed on us as an Operator by individual Boroughs, we can no longer guarantee a high service level for our users. Borough boundaries, and a lack of unified thinking to manage bike-sharing in London has resulted in a patchwork service, limiting the usefulness of Freebikes for you – our customers – with rules and regulations that make operating vastly inefficient. We believe that dockless bike-share has an important role to play in London, and complements existing forms of transport, but the current regulations are counterproductive, outdated, and problematic. Throughout our time in London we have worked proactively with the authorities and have sought to demonstrate our responsible operations. We are immensely proud of our achievements as a small British owned company competing with far larger companies. |
In light of the above, we have made the extremely difficult decision to temporarily close our London operations, effective 31st August. Effective immediately we will no longer be accepting sign-ups from new users. If you have unspent credit on your account please complete the form below and we will process your refund. |
We hope to return to providing a public access scheme in London when the conditions are more favourable. Freebike will not be leaving London entirely, and, instead, will be expanding our successful Freebike for Organisations operations. We provide dedicated pool bike systems for organisations to offer their staff to help enable safe and healthy transport for workplace related travel. We take care of everything from onboarding, battery swapping and maintenance, customer service, and usage reporting. All for a transparent monthly fee. If you want to find out more or contact us please check out our website. If you have any questions or comments then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at hello@freebike.com. To each and every customer who has used our bikes – thank you and keep on cycling! Matt Morbin, General Manager |
